Professional FAQ
Questions UK clinicians ask about Bioport TriCombo.
Short answers with their sources, for clinicians considering TriCombo, an injection of N-acetylglucosamine (NAG), chondroitin sulfate, a glycosaminoglycan (GAG), and hyaluronic acid, the lubricating component. Each topic is covered in full elsewhere in this section.

Common questions
What clinics ask before a first case.
What is Bioport TriCombo?
A sterile viscoelastic solution for intra-articular injection containing N-acetylglucosamine (30 mg/ml), chondroitin sodium sulfate (30 mg/ml) and 3 MDa sodium hyaluronate (16 mg/ml), in a 2.25 ml pre-filled glass syringe. The hyaluronate and chondroitin sulfate are physically associated; the product is not chemically or irradiation cross-linked.1
What is the indication?
As a viscoelastic supplement or replacement for the synovial fluid in the knee joint, and for the symptomatic treatment of mild to severe knee osteoarthritis, per the manufacturer’s brochure.1
What is the dosing schedule?
One syringe per treatment. The manufacturer recommends two treatment cycles per year, at six-month intervals.1
What are the contraindications?
Contraindications, warnings and precautions are listed in the instructions for use supplied with each pack. The brochure does not list them, and this website does not summarise them.3
Is image guidance required?
The manufacturer’s brochure does not specify a technique beyond intra-articular injection by a physician. Approach and any use of ultrasound guidance are the treating clinician’s decision.1
What does the published evidence show?
A single-centre observational study (n = 52, Kellgren-Lawrence grade 2) measured synovial-fluid rheology six weeks after a 3 ml injection of Kombihylan, with or without multimodal physiotherapy, and reported higher shear viscosity and more consistent viscoelastic values in the group that combined the two. The full paper is linked on the evidence page.2
What is the relationship between TriCombo and Kombihylan?
The manufacturer’s brochure states that the active principles of the TriCombo device are so-called Kombihylan: hyaluronic acid, chondroitin and N-acetylglucosamine. The published study used a 3 ml Kombihylan product supplied by Rompharm; TriCombo is presented as 2.25 ml. The study is cited under its published product name.1,2
How is it supplied in the UK?
UK supply enquiries from clinics and healthcare professionals are handled by Actomed Ltd through the supply page. No price is published on this website.
How should adverse events be reported?
Report to the clinic’s usual vigilance route and to the UK supplier, who passes reports to the manufacturer. Keep the lot number from the pack.
What storage conditions apply?
Storage conditions and shelf life are specified in the instructions for use and on the pack label.3
