Single-centre observational study, two groups · Knee · n = 52 · Follow-up: 6 weeks
Fifty-two adults with Kellgren-Lawrence grade 2 knee osteoarthritis received a single 3 ml intra-articular injection of Kombihylan, a viscoelastic solution of uncrosslinked 3 MDa hyaluronic acid with chondroitin sodium sulfate (30 mg/ml) and N-acetyl D-glucosamine (30 mg/ml). Thirty-seven also had ten physiotherapy sessions over two weeks; 15 had the injection alone. Synovial fluid sampled after injection and at six weeks showed higher shear viscosity and more consistent viscoelastic values in the group that combined the injection with physiotherapy. Bioport names Kombihylan as the active principles of TriCombo.1
