Is it for me?

Whether Bioport TriCombo is an option for you is decided with your clinician.

This website does not assess patients. Only a clinician who has examined your knee can decide whether TriCombo is right for you. This page explains who it is designed for, how that decision is made, and what to bring to your appointment.

Living with knee osteoarthritis

When knee pain starts making decisions for you.

Many people with knee osteoarthritis notice the small compromises before anything else. If some of these sound familiar, it is worth talking to a clinician about the options, of which TriCombo is one.

  • Walks get shorter, or you plan routes around where you can sit down.

  • Stairs, kneeling or getting up from a low chair take more thought.

  • An aching knee interrupts sleep or is stiff first thing in the morning.

  • You have stopped a sport, a hobby or time with family because of what your knee might do.

Who it is designed for

The manufacturer’s indication.

The manufacturer describes Bioport TriCombo, a glucosamine (as N-acetylglucosamine, NAG), chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid (the lubricating component) injection, for use in the knee:

  • As a viscoelastic supplement or as a replacement for the synovial fluid in the knee joint.1

  • For the symptomatic treatment of mild to severe knee osteoarthritis.1

Mild, moderate or more advanced

Your clinician decides from your knee, not a label.

The indication covers mild to severe knee osteoarthritis.1 That is a broad range, and a grade on a scan report does not decide the question on its own.

Your clinician looks at how your knee feels and moves, your history, what you want to get back to and any imaging, and then discusses whether TriCombo, another treatment, or a combination is the sensible next step for you.

If other treatment helped only partly

When exercise or an earlier injection did not go far enough.

Many people come to a clinic having already tried exercise, physiotherapy, weight management, painkillers or a previous injection, and found that it helped, but not as much as they hoped.

That history matters. Tell your clinician what you tried, for how long, and what changed. It helps them judge whether an injection such as TriCombo is worth considering alongside the things that are already helping.

Before your appointment

The health information your clinician needs.

Bring the following, or have it ready to discuss. Contraindications and warnings for TriCombo are set out in the instructions for use, which your clinician follows.2

  • A list of every medicine you take, including supplements and anything bought over the counter.

  • Any allergies, and any reaction you have had to an injection.

  • Any infection, or any skin problem, cut or rash around the knee. Tell the clinic before the appointment.

  • Whether you take blood thinners. Do not stop or change any prescribed medicine on your own; the clinician will advise.

  • Previous injections in the knee (which product, when, and how your knee responded), and any surgery or implants in that knee.

Your clinician decides

Only a clinician who has examined you and seen your scans can say whether TriCombo is an option. What to expect.

Before you decide

Take this list with you.

You are entitled to clear answers to all of these before you agree to anything.

Questions to ask your clinician

  1. 1Is osteoarthritis the main cause of my knee pain, and is TriCombo an option for my knee?
  2. 2How will you give the injection, and will you use ultrasound guidance?
  3. 3What is your experience with this product?
  4. 4What should I do in the first few days afterwards, and when can I drive and exercise?
  5. 5When will we review how my knee has responded?
  6. 6What are the alternatives, including other injections and non-injection options?
  7. 7What will it cost at this clinic, and what does the fee include?
